On the 8th Day of the Octave of Christmas and at the beginning of the new civil year, the Church celebrates Mary as the Mother of God. One of the oldest titles for Our Lady, the Greek title Θεοτόκος (Theotokos), meaning "Bearer of God" was adopted by the First Council of Ephesus (431) as an assertion of the divinity of Christ.
This will be the only Mass celebrated on January 1 and there are no scheduled confessions this day.
A Fabulous Fable Collection
Join Fr. Greg Carlson, S.J. for an entertaining talk on his world class fable collection,
“How Fables Found Me”,
Saturday, January 17
3:30-4:45 p.m. in Lower St. John’s.
Fr. Carlson will describe how he has collected 17,00 books and objects connected with fables and the life lesson they can teach us. His book on the subject will be available. Light refreshments will be served.
The Sacrament of Anointing within the Mass is available to all those who are chronically ill, advanced in age, overly burdened with the struggles of life and even children who suffer from illness. The entire community is invited and encouraged to pray and support the sick of our parish.
