Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God - Holy Day of Obligation
On the 8th Day of the Octave of Christmas and at the beginning of the new civil year, the Church celebrates Mary as the Mother of God. One of the oldest titles for Our Lady, the Greek title Θεοτόκος (Theotokos), meaning "Bearer of God" was adopted by the First Council of Ephesus (431) as an assertion of the divinity of Christ.
This will be the only Mass celebrated on January 1 and there are no scheduled confessions this day.

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin- 5 pm
This year the Assumption falls during one of Creighton University’s move-in days.
Due to move-in days there will be parking restrictions on campus, including a temporary closure of the accessible parking lot for St. John’s. There will also be lane closures on 24th Street to accommodate the move-in process.
Understanding that access to campus will be difficult on that day, we invite those not on campus to consider joining our Historic 24th Street Family of Parishes for 8:00am Mass at St. Benedict the Moor Church (2423 Grant Street) in celebration of this solemnity.

Session 4: What is the meaning and mission of your Living Elderhood? (July 2) Living Elderhood invites ways of being that move toward reconciliation, holistic well-being, and communal harmony. We share conversations in the Spirit on prayer, encounters with Divinity, and actions of compassionate love as touchpoints to exploring Living Elderhood. How do the decades of your life bring you to this moment of Living Elderhood? Standing in this moment, what does Living Elderhood mean to you? How do your actions of compassionate love and your relationship with Divinity give meaning to your Living Elderhood? What are the routines, rituals, roles, and horizons of your Living Elderhood? Novena of Grace "Pilgrims of Hope"
Dr. Julia Fleming will share reflections on the Scriptures and the Jubilee at the 10:30 am Mass. Coffee and donuts in Lower St. John’s after Mass
St. John’s announces its annual Novena of Grace in Honor of St. Francis Xavier, SJ. All are invited to join the Novena as we pray and are inspired by the call of Pope Francis to be “Pilgrims of Hope”. 2025 is the Jubilee Holy Year, the 2,025th anniversary of the Incarnation of our Lord, an "event of great spiritual, ecclesial, and social significance in the life of the Church." The concept of "Jubilee" has its origins in the Book of Leviticus (chapter 25) as a special year of reconciliation, pilgrimage, and coming home. Pope Francis has designated the 2025 Holy Year as a time to renew ourselves as "Pilgrims of Hope."
Novena prayer and blessing with the relic of St. Francis Xavier, SJ, at all Masses, March 4-12.
